Throughout 2000, Wade Edwards Foundation
representatives worked with educators, community leaders and
business representatives in Wayne County to create a WELL at
Goldsboro High School. Olivia Pierce, Wayne County Schools
Director of Information/Technology Service has worked tirelessly
with Pat Burden, Principal of Goldsboro High School and other
members of the steering committee to launch a facility that will
serve students as well as family and community members. Through
services offered during non-traditional school hours, the
facility will offer participants after-school academic
opportunities that include use of computers/Internet, tutoring
and homework help, computer skills instructions, End-of-Course
and SAT test preparation, and job skills assistance. The
WELL will also offer continuing education and computer skills
instruction to parents and community members during the school
day as well as after school, with an emphasis on helping
participants qualify for and obtain better paying jobs and to
improve parent participation in the school community. The
WELL at GHS is tentatively scheduled to open in the summer of
2001. For more information, contact Olivia Pierce at 919-705-6169
