SAB Q&A:
What is the Student Advisory Board?
The Student Advisory Board (SAB) is an organization that runs out of the Wade Edwards Learning Lab. The main missions of the SAB are to:
- promote the usage of the WELL
- reach out to various organizations within the Triangle community through service projects
Do I have to have any special qualifications to be a Student Advisory Board member?
- The Students Advisory Board does not choose members or elect officers based on their individual class rank or the degree of their history of extracurricular activities. The SAB seeks to find members who are goal-oriented, well mannered individuals who are reliable, can contribute to discussions and work well in group settings.
How many members are allowed to join?
- The Student Advisory Board has, in the past, consisted of ten to twenty members. The more support we gain, the bigger and better our projects can become. However, since we encourage our members to be active members by attending meetings regularly and assisting with club tasks and projects, the SAB requests that only those truly dedicated and interested in the SAB choose to join.
When are meetings usually held? How long do they last?
- Meetings are scheduled on the day that fits most club member's needs and changes yearly. The SAB usually meets every other week on a specific weekday. After a few preliminary meetings to decide on dates that best suit the SAB, a schedule of meetings and events will be drafted and made available to all members. Generally, meetings take place in the conference room located on the main level of the Wade Edwards Learning Lab.
As a member, will I be expected to pay dues?
-
Along with the President and Treasurer of the SAB, members will decide if dues will be collected as well as the amount and frequency of payment during the preliminary meetings.
-
Check with coordinator for more about dues.
Can I use this club on applications to the National Honor Society and other club/higher education/community organizations? Are members of the SAB granted community service credits?
- The SAB is recognized by the Broughton High School Student Council as an official club and organization. Members can list the SAB on applications as an extra-curricular activity. An active SAB member can receive community service credit only when involved in a community service project of the SAB. Meeting attendance is not awarded with community service hours.
- For more on community service policy, contact the Broughton High School Community Service Department at (ph) 919-856-7840 or (web) http://broughton.wcpss.net/academics/service/index.html .
