KidsClick!  - an excellent collection of links by librarians for students.   Although it is well categorized and easy to use, it focuses on sites for elementary school students.  Each of the links to sites has a description of the site and a suitable age range so it is easy to avoid the really elementary sites.  Try the grade 7 and up sites; there are also some suitable sites erroneously ranked for grades 3-6.
